After the church, across the road to the school for tea, buns, and a specially baked cake.

Butterfly buns: the undisputed stars of the Irish tea-time feast.
All over the world, Irish ex-pats will be weeping into their watery Guinness at the thought of how delicious these tasted.

There's my cuppa now being poured for me. A lovely day, enjoyed by everyone, big and small.

I would have thought my childhood fascination (hey, it was 1970's rural Ireland) with cults and counterculture might have inured me to the darkness behind this blog.
See, despite their twistedness, I found Squeaky gawkily beguiling, Susan Atkins pitiful, and Blue downright laughable. I was surprised, impressed even, at the level of open, democratic debate in the final, fevered hours at Jonestown. Being 'Tania' was how Patty survived; anyway, we'll never know what's behind those hard, bright eyes. Oh, and by the way, funny how we all recall the hot white chick with the leather coat and sexy gun-totin' style, but who the hell remembers Cinque Mtume? And don't tell Kris Colby but last October, while she was sleeping off her jet-lag and while I was losing the battle against my own, I still managed to stumble down this street.
Okay, so that's my macabre secret interest. But this. Understanding does involve reaching out but there are some stretches that just go too far.

'To me, The Smiths mean cheap hair gel, unwashed sheets, damp walls, badly ventilated gas fires and impossible expectations. A beautiful fury with everything, because it isn't you. Rejection. Devotion. Tattooed, be-quiffed, soft-centred lads. Clever, slightly thwarted, determined girls. The understated but ravishing beauty of the English and their language. Being too smart for university. Being too smart for work. The North triumphant, at its moment of Thatcherite dejection. Working-class pride. The joy of misery. The splendidly chaste climax to the great and noble -- and now well and truly spannered -- tradition of English pop. A serious illness. Morrissey.'- Mark Simpson

Jaded from irony, I was nonetheless struck by your avi.
How many people here recognize him?
